Bidders set a maximum bid ceiling and AuctionFlow automatically places incremental bids on their behalf — keeping them competitive without constant monitoring across timed, live, silent, and hybrid auctions.
Manual bidding requires constant monitoring, which is impractical for busy professionals or global bidders across time zones. Bidders often overpay through emotional decisions or get sniped in final seconds without proxy protection.
AuctionFlow's proxy bidding lets bidders set a maximum ceiling once. The engine auto-increments their bid only as needed to maintain the leading position, keeping the bid confidential until a competitor forces it higher. Works across all formats.
Bidders enter their maximum willingness-to-pay. The system only bids the minimum increment needed to maintain the leading position, never exceeding the ceiling. If a competing bid surpasses the ceiling, the proxy bidder is notified immediately and can choose to increase their maximum or step aside.
Proxy bid maximums are never revealed to other bidders, the auctioneer, or auction staff. The current bid shown is always the minimum increment above the previous bid — not the proxy ceiling. This prevents bid manipulation and ensures fair competition based on actual willingness-to-pay.
Proxy bidding works identically across timed, live, silent, and hybrid auction formats. For live auctions, proxy bids function as absentee bids that the system executes during the auctioneer-led session. For hybrid events, a proxy bid placed during the timed phase carries forward into the live phase seamlessly.
When a proxy bidder is outbid — either because their ceiling was surpassed or because a competing proxy bid was higher — they receive instant notification via WebSocket, email, and optionally SMS. Notifications include the current bid amount, the new minimum to regain the lead, and the time remaining on the lot.
Proxy bidders can increase or decrease their maximum bid at any time before the lot closes. Decreasing is only allowed if the current winning bid is below the new ceiling. All adjustments are logged in the bid audit trail with timestamp and bidder identity for full transparency.
Proxy bidding is implemented as a first-class bid type within the core bidding engine, not as an overlay or add-on. Proxy resolution executes atomically within the bid validation pipeline, ensuring no race conditions between competing proxy bids. Before/after hooks allow custom proxy logic such as tiered proxy limits by bidder class or lot category.
The AI copilot suggests proxy bid amounts based on lot history, comparable recent auction results, and current bidding pace. It helps operators configure proxy bidding rules and validates that proxy logic interacts correctly with soft-close and deposit requirements.
